The Inspector-General for Emergency Management is a Governor in Council appointment, reporting to the Minister for Emergency Services.
Their primary role is providing assurance to government and the community regarding the emergency management arrangements in Victoria and fostering their continuous improvement.
An office provided by the Department of Justice and Community Safety (External link) assists the Inspector-General in the performance of their functions and exercise of their powers.
The IGEM office is established under section 61 of the Emergency Management Act 2013 (External link).
